At that time the railway society was located at the Harold Wilson Industrial Estate in Caerphilly, Cardiff, South Wales, UK with the aim of restoring and maintaining vintage steam locomotives.

BUY A PRINTMany photographs were taken on the streets of Cardiff as a teenager in the early to mid 1970’s most of which have been lost (thanks Pickfords!) and never made it to Australia.
Cardiff then was the Arms Park, Hayes Island snack bar, wet fish at Central Market and that sarsaparilla bar tucked away in an arcade full of cigarette smoke and old photos of champion racing pigeons.

The site was later redeveloped to accommodate modern apartments after remaining empty for a few years.
From the archive. British Steel plant, Port Talbot 1977. Images in and around number 4 blast furnace and the rolling mill. In 2024 it’s closure was announced.
