Tortoise for sale, Sousse, Tunisia

  • Tortoise for sale at tourist shop, Sousse, Tunisia. Photo shows gift shop vendor attempting to sell a small indigenous spur-thighed tortoise. Unfortunately they are popular as pets (no purchase was made). Tunisian tortoise or Nabeul tortoise - Testudo graeca nabeulensis. Photo circa 2002.

Being popular popular as pets in many countries they are often taken from the wild.
