by fiofoto | posted in: From the Archive | 0
Photo shows scene outside the Australian War Memorial, Canberra, ACT, Australia which includes the statue of Simpson and his donkey. The sculpture was created by artist Peter Corlett commemorating John Simpson Kirkpatrick a stretcher-bearer who, with his donkey, rescued wounded men to the beach on Anzac Cove, Gallipoli and is credited with saving many soldiers' lives. He served from the time of the landing at Gallipoli on 25 April, 1915 until being killed in action on 19 May, 1915.
